This is a really facinating recounting of the earliest days of WikiPedia? by one of the founders. His telling reveals a lot about managing an open, collaborative project and the kinds of issues at play. Here's a quote inwhich he sizes up the significance of WikiPedia and expresses it's key virtue, in my mind, of "good enough" knowledge:
"Wikipedia as it stands is a fantastic project; it has produced enormous amounts of content, thousands of excellent articles, and now, after just four years, is getting high-profile, international recognition as a new way of obtaining at least a rough and ready idea about very many topics.
